The tentative line-up for this week’s test at Jerez has been released. As has been the usual practice for teams thus far, they’ll be following a rotational pattern, rather than having drivers overlap on the same day, for the most part. There are a couple of exceptions, but for the most part, the drivers will be splitting the testing duties. In addition, both Lotus and Force India will be giving their reserve drivers some cockpit time.
Rain is scheduled again this week, which illustrates one of the difficulties of having limited pre-season test time. If poor weather should persist during the fourth and final test meeting prior to the season’s opening race in Bahrain, the teams will be sorely lacking in dry weather test data prior to the beginning of the official racing season. The only saving grace is that all of the teams will be equally hampered, although the better funded teams, who now count sophisticated simulators as part of their standard equipment, are probably better equipped to deal with the setback than are the smaller teams who are operating on what passes for a shoe-string budget in Formula 1.
